A Visit to the Station Inn
10/30/08... UPDATED! Thanks to Doug Obert for creating the above video, which is also available on YouTube.
12/29/08... Common Sense...... Please don't arrive at The Inn without a reservation. This is especially true during the winter. If you are not expected, you may not get a room, even though there's a vacancy. The front door will be locked, no one will greet you and you may not be accommodated. A phone call on the day you plan to stop by will allow us to make arrangements. Just call 814-886-4757.
1/2/09... Well, HAPPY NEW YEAR! AND, DON'T FORGET that all January & February multi-day reservations will be booked at HALF rate this year.
11/12... You may have noted that the Webcam's clock is still set for Daylight Time. It will be changed (someday)......meanwhile.........adjust, live with it.
12/24/08... I just found an easy way to view the HISTORY CHANNEL's STATION INN clip. Google www.trainwatcher hotel and then figure it out. Mad Matt shows up and gives you a 2 min. rant on the old pile of boards known as The Station Inn. Be prepared for a short commercial at the opening.
GO GREEN........Buy a Station Inn tote bag for grocery shopping. The totes are quite large. They are versatile..... Good for carrying library books and kittens. $11.50
8/12... BTW...Interested in railfanning Horseshoe Curve by air??? Dan Lipko at Barber Aviation in Martinsburg can arrange it!. More info at www.barberaviation.com Dan's copters can carry three passengers. This helps keep your individual cost very reasonable.
11/10......... Now Open! The BRIDGEVIEW B&B in Marysville is now open for guests and has a website you can visit. The web address: www.bridgeviewbnb.com On Aug. 19 & 20 I spent two days and nights at Bridgeview. The place is outstanding. The building is climate controlled throughout. There are stunning views of the Susquehanna and the Rockville Bridge. Really, you're right there!
At Bridgeview, the mile-wide river is just below the rear deck. All trains on the bridge can be viewed from the rear deck. A regular stream of railroad traffic passes, going to Altoona and Enola. Trains to and from Enola roll by the front deck. About half of the westbound traffic from Enola bears right at the Marysville Wye and you can then see it proceed across the bridge. Harrisburg to Altoona traffic bears right after crossing the bridge on its way westward. You can quickly see why the train count here usually exceeds 125 per day. I shot a batch of good photos while at Bridgeview; they'll be posted on this site in the Photo Gallery in a few days.
12/26/08... Good reports from visitors to the Bridgeview........ they like it! If you plan a stay there in '09, I suggest you get your reservations in as soon as you have a definite date.
12/26/08... Christmas cards were mailed to our 2008 guests two weeks ago. The card features a great Alex Lang shot at (forbidden) MG. If you would like one of these cards, email me at station.inn@verizon.net and I'll send you one.
